MTCB continually strives to provide social and recreational opportunities for its membership. Programs at present include twice monthly bowling, a Supper Club that visits different restaurants, Blind Golf, luncheons that include Bingo and an annual Summer picnic. We also financially supplement members attendence at TPAC live narration programs and movies at Regal theatres where audio description is available. Also, we were instrumental in the implementation of an audio tour with tactile maps for the blind to use at Centennial Park.
In 2007, we hope to establish an on-going exercise and nutrition program for our members. MTCB is also working on providing CPR training that would include adaptive equipment for the blind and visually impaired, as well as specialized trainers. Since Diabetes is an issue closely related to blindness, MTCB plans to provide continuing education and assistance for our members to help them understand, monitor and manage this debilitating disease.
Adaptive Computer Training
Over 70% of the blind and visually impaired community is unemployed or underemployed. We are trying to meet this challenge by providing computer training classes to help our members become more employable. Classes take place at The Tennessee School for the Blind where specialized adaptive equipment can be used and training is provided by an experienced and knowledgeable instructor.
Supper Club
Since it's beginning in 1998, Supper Club has become the longest running and most popular outside activity of M T C B. At the business meetings we vote to choose a restaurant to visit on the first Saturday of each month usually excepting November and December. We try for a variety both in location and type of food. It serves as a great opportunity for members and prospective members to congregate and have a good time.
Bowling Program
Ten-pin bowling is one of the most popular recreational activities in the United States among both sighted and visually impaired athletes as it provides people of all ages the opportunity to compete in both recreational and elite settings at all ages. For the blind bowler, this is also an appealing sport because the only physical modification needed for the lanes is a portable guide rail, depending on the vision of the competitor.

Tandem Cycling
For those that don't know what a tandem is, it's a bicycle built for two, usually two riders. The person up front is the captain and the person in back is the stoker. Other tandem cycles can accommodate three and four riders, and are some made for even more riders.
We have been invited to join the Harpeth Bicycle Club (HBC) along with the local Chapter of the Tennessee Association of Blind Athletes (TNABA) to participate in their Tuesday night weekly rides held at the Music City Motorway (Nashville Fairgrounds).
We invite all members to come out and take advantage of this great way to get some physical exercise and help improve your overall health. To read more about tandem cycling, and view a few pictures of our participants.
