Mentoring Program

MTCB is endeavoring to expand its mentoring program involving students at the Tennessee School for the Blind. In 2006, we increased our interaction with students through Career Day and Legislative Awareness day. We also participated in voter education with older students, as well as, the Braille Literacy Awards. We hope to mentor students regarding the necessary preparations and challenges of choosing a college curriculum, employment careers for the blind, share successful life skills and strategies and inform students of services in their community directed specifically toward the blind.

We also hope to initiate activities partnering blind adults and students to attend theatrical productions with live narration, attend movies with audio description, bowl with adaptive equipment, visit the State Legislature, and have discussion groups on topics such as coping with college life, accessing reliable transportation and other community services.
