About Us

The Mid-Tennessee Council of the Blind, (MTCB), is one of five local chapters across the state of the Tennessee Council of the Blind, which is a state affiliate of the American Council of the Blind. MTCB is a 501c(3) organization made up of people who are blind or visually impaired, as well as, sighted family, friends and anyone interested in the concerns and needs of those experiencing vision loss.

The organization does not have a single paid employee and is run strictly by the volunteerism of its members and with the wonderful assistance of community support like Hands on Nashville. MTCB does not have an office, but holds its monthly meetings in the fellowship hall of a local church and hosts numerous social, recreational and educational activities at various venues in the community.

Among the regular activities offered to MTCB members are bowling, golf, fishing, tandem biking, exercise classes, supper club, book club, game night, computer tips and training, audio described movies and TPAC performances complete with live narration.

Our members monitor legislation and other policies impacting the blind and communicate our concerns; participate in support groups for those adjusting to vision loss and offer information, resources and encouragement; provide public awareness and educational training to schools, civic groups and join in health fairs, etc. We share our skills and experiences with one another to promote better computer literacy and independence in daily living tasks.

The goal of MTCB is to provide insight in to life without sight and we endeavor to do this within and outside our organization. Get involved with our group and your eyes will be opened to the abilities and optimistic outlook on life among our members. If you would like to learn more about MTCB or volunteer for some of our fun events, contact our president, Beth Corley at 615-406-4168 or e-mail her at beth.corley@comcast.net.
